What should I wear for my free trial class?
You can wear any clothing that will be comfortable to dance in. If you have leggings or tights and any color leotard already, that’s great! If you don’t have ballet or jazz shoes, you can wear socks or go barefoot. Due to our special Marley flooring, street shoes are not allowed. Upon registration you will receive a coupon to apply towards the SEDMA Dress Code, available exclusively at Discount Dance Supply.
When can I enroll my student?
You can enroll at any time, as long as we have space available in the class.
Can I pay for just a Single class?
Of course! If you would like to try more than one of the same class without a commitment, please drop-in again. Prices vary depending on the length of the class.
Is there a registration fee?
There is a non-refundable registration fee of $75.00 per student or $100.00 per family due once per school year. If the student registers after January 1st the registration is discounted to 50.00 per student and 75.00 per family.
Where can I purchase the Dress Code?
Discount Dance Supply carries all of SEDMA’s Dress Code items and their knowledgeable staff is familiar with the specific dance items that our students need for each class. Be sure to tell Discount Dance that you are students of San Elijo Dance And Music Academy and use your coupon and studio code that you received at registration!
How do I pay tuition? Can I pay monthly?
Tuition is based on San Elijo Dance And Music Academy’s school year that runs from August 1st to June 30th. Tuition accounts can be paid in one annual payment to waive the registration fee, or divided into 11 equal payments on a monthly plan. After your free trial, your start month is prorated, and only the number of remaining classes in the start month are billed to your account. If you have chosen the monthly payment plan option at registration, the subsequent equal payments reflect the monthly payment plan, not the number of classes in the month (otherwise, for example, the 5 week months would be more expensive). All families must set up a recurring tuition account in the enrollment process with a checking account (no processing surcharge), or a credit or debit card (5% processing surcharge). Monthly payments can easily be discontinued by sending an email to the Academy at least 2 weeks before tuition is scheduled to be paid. Tuition is not credited for student absences and is not refunded unless the Academy cancels the class.
Can I make-up a missed Dance class?
Yes! San Elijo Dance And Music Academy has a very liberal make-up policy. Classes missed may be made up by attending any other class on the schedule that is appropriate for the dancer’s age and ability. Make up classes never expire as long as the dancer is enrolled at SEDMA, and the missed classes can even be redeemed as a Gift Certificate to give away to family and friends who would be a new student at the Academy. Make-up classes are not to be used as tuition credit or as a substitute for enrollment in the Summer Session, but missed classes during the month of July can be made up at any time during the school year.
What if my family schedule changes and I need to switch classes?
As parents of a busy family ourselves, we are on your team, and we’re happy to assist you in finding a class that fits your schedule as best we can. If a student needs to change their class, you can easily do so with a phone call to the Academy followed up with an email.
Do I still pay for July if I can’t attend the whole month?
Nobody likes to pay for things they are not able to use, that’s why at SEDMA we have Summer A-La-Mode! The 11 month auto-debit plan pauses in July, and Summer A-La Mode has its own registration that opens February 17th and even offers an early-bird Summer Discount until April 1st.
That’s right, in the month of July you can customize your own schedule around your summer plans. Come take afternoon classes, or sing and dance your heart out in our half-day Musical Theater camps before you head out to the beach, catch up on technique and keep your game on in the Junior Ballet Intensive, or just simply have fun trying out classes that you don’t have time for during the school year. There is a truly a self-directed schedule for everyone with Summer A-La-Mode!
Where do parents wait? Can I watch classes?
We welcome our parents to join us in one of our upstairs or downstairs comfortable lobby areas where there are viewing windows and closed circuit TV’s to aid in your ability to watch your students at any time. Additionally SEDMA has scheduled parent observation days twice per school year where you can join us inside the studio and watch the impressive progress of your dancer in class!
Are private Dance lessons offered?
All of our well qualified and inspiring teachers offer private and semi-private lessons. Please call the Academy to schedule privates.
What about performances?
We have two main performances a year: an annual full scale Nutcracker performance accompanied by live orchestra where students perform alongside professional guest artists, and a Graduation Recital. These optional performances have associated participation, costume and ticket costs that are not included in tuition.
Dancers in Elementary Ballet and above are eligible to audition for a chance to perform in the Nutcracker. Nearly all students are selected to perform unless their teachers and staff feel as though they are not ready for the experience. Nutcracker rehearsals take place outside of the students regularly scheduled classes, and Nutcracker performances take place in December at the exquisite California Center for the Arts Escondido Center Theater.
Additionally, all dance students are invited to participate in our highly anticipated Graduation Recital held in mid-June. No auditions are necessary.
What is the difference between Youth Ballet classes and Ballet Conservatory classes?
While our exceptional Youth Ballet classes follow a carefully guided syllabus of ballet technique, the Ballet Conservatory expands on this curriculum by bringing it to life through additional choreographic and performance opportunities. Beginning in Ballet Level 1, the Conservatory is an optional accelerated program that introduces new and existing classical and contemporary works to the enthusiastic student who is physically capable and dedicated to a rigorous and rewarding dance experience.
Can I try a Music lesson before I commit?
Yes, music trial lessons are only 20.00 for a 30 minute session and can be scheduled by calling the Academy. After your trial we will help you secure your reserved spot on the schedule and start the music flowing!
Can I make-up a missed Music lesson?
Yes, absolutely. As long as your teacher knows at least 24 hours in advance that you will be absent, you may schedule a make-up lesson directly through your instructor at a time that is convenient for both of you.
Are there Music Recitals?
Music students have two optional performances per year; in the winter and at the close of the school year. All students will learn their performance pieces in their regularly scheduled classes. Voice students may also audition to sing the Snow Chorus with the San Diego Civic Youth Orchestra in SEDMA’s magical Nutcracker.
What is the Tuition for Music classes?
Tuition for a 30 minute private music class occurring weekly is $135 or $145 per month.
